So here we are
A froze threshold
In front of the mirror
I can touch my face
And you do the same
We used to dance
Perfectly in step
Because my movements
Where yours
The light
On your side of the mirror
Went out one night
I couldn't see you any more
Maybe you went to another mirror
I called out and out and out
Until
On your side a light flickered on
And it was you
With a hammer
The glass fell like stars
It cut open my arms
The red splashing
Onto those shards
Was so tragically poetic
In such a melodramatic way
I looked up
And the wooden backing of the mirror
Stared back out at me
I took my paintbrush
And with the only paint available
In big red letters wrote
Free.
Author notes
A friend of mine, who I considered a part of myself, shut me out of his life forever.
