Dissonant snows
Mineralize the night into an
Exoskeleton for our dreams
Under mercury-vapor skies
We'll flee the dying city
Moving in unimaginable ways
In fields of ash we'll rest
Drinking greedily from each other's mouths
Intoxicated by our skin
Until we fall into a dreamless sleep
on that cold ground
under that starless sky
and we forget each other's names
and we wake to find that its snowing even harder
and the dogs have stopped barking
and the snow burns our skin
and as a tear rolls down your face
all I can think of is:
Please forgive me for forgetting your name!
And as we lay on that ashen field
Waiting to find out if we'll calcify
Or vaporize into a hollow
I clench your hand even tighter
and all I can think of is:
When they cast us in plaster
We will join the monument of bones
Together, outside the walls of our doomed city
Author notes
this is the second poem I've written. I don't know if its any good but I do like this one better.
