Loyalty

Missing image
Machine gun turrets stood
atop thirty foot walls
behind which I waited
for the gates, to open on a…
new chapter of life!

Dressed in a wool suit
long past todays fashion.
Just a faded memory,
like the love of my life.

Most women need men
in a real time picture.
Not frozen in time
with emotions on hold!

But there’s a friendship of the heart
so rooted in childhood
skinned knees and skate boards,
Little League Base Ball
and mischief night pranks.

The prison gates open
to my best friend who's waiting,
to embrace who I’ve become
both the good and the bad.

Prompt: My Heart Friend "Free Verse"

Due to the fact that I am one of the judges in this contest. This poem will not be a part of the conterst. I just felt like writing for the prompt for the fun of it.

    Thought-provoking!

As one who taught after work at a jail, I know where you are coming from.
[As you are not now a judge, this counts!!]

This is a true narrative of feeling.
Thank you and best wishes. Ron.

What a feeling this must have been to find freedom and a friend-lover waiting unchanged,
as if time had stood still for them. Lucky man.

Such a thought. It would be the best to know someone was faithful for the duration of internment. Nice take on the prompt.

given the right responses, 'people' are capable of anything. The right responses to our pledges are what counts.
