Entwined within the words and sounds,
hum and squall,
hymn and grumble,
laugh and sob,
yell and song of a woman’s voice,
is a woman’s soul.
Her words are the words of a teacher,
a student,
both child and adult,
mistress and master.
We gather in twos and sizes,
groups and gaggles,
groups of granges and quilters,
in kitchens and drawing rooms,
in bathrooms and malls,
in churches and cinemas,
in mortuaries and monasteries,
over cradles and candles,
under trees and blankets,
between walls and brothers,
beside lakes and streams and waterfalls.
Sisters
in laughter and in serenity,
in dignity and dens
you will hear our songs.
Listen!
Listen, sister.
I am listening to you.
Tell me
what you have learned the easy way
and the hard way
and by way of me.
Sing me your visions,
beat your drum,
draw me your rainbows
and your rain,
crochet me a blanket ,
stitch me a shawl
and I shall wrap myself in your language.
Sing it.
Dance it.
Draw it.
Let us put our left hands
to each other’s hearts
and we will talk,
we will sit in silence,
we will sigh and sorrow together…
but tell me.
Tell me so I might know there are ways to rise.
Please tell me what you think

This is a touching piece. I missed out on this with my sister. She passed away last year. Life's circumstances kept us from being close until it was too late. I miss her. Thank you for this piece.

A wonderful view on the many forms of human relationships. I greatly enjoyed the words, but thought the form could be better organized to be more pleasing to the eye of the reader. Just my opinion, but I still rate the poem highly for the content

What an amazing write to post after a break, Carol!!! Such unity and comradarie here... such inspiration to embrace our differences and similarities so that we may glean from one another. I love the closeness of those final images, and truly you have called us to no only recognize but to utilize the gift that we are to one another.
It amazes me how you can string together such an amalgamation of ideas with out them getting tedious or boring... quite the contrary. At first the recognition of our opportunities together as sister produce sort of a silent nod of agreement, then a smile...and by the end I find myself wanting to stand and clap aloud... and to call my sister. Really beautiful work here, gal.

Wonderful vision, strong sense of community and the glory of belonging. Lists are tricky devices and here they crescendo and hail all readers to celebrate the sisterhood and being of woman. Wonderful read.
Love, Tom B.

Ty, Tom. I did struggle with the listing. It began as a long paragraph with ands and ands and ands and I pared and put it down as a poem.
I am back from holidays and having puter in the puter hospital for some serious surgical removal of some backdoor trojans..thirteen, to be exact.
Hopefully I can work my way into some poetry writing now.
