being around you is like
trying to translate from
decimals to fractions,
and I always carry over numbers wrong
mentally tugging ribbon smiles
a tad tighter, fuller
polished
the moon fell
in liquid inconsistency --
beautiful destruction
behind your eyes
looking through me
staring into fountains
as if counting all the nickels
at the bottom
when I'm a penny turning green
drinking up your words
like a rare elixir
and stashing every glance
under my eyelids,
memorizing the way
you diligently study
my hollowed edges
Author notes
affection that isn't returned
or something like that.
