Clouds and Igloos

To feel the wind and dream
of drifting through the sky
takes no rules nor requires a tome in explanation,
it doesn’t matter who else sees
because the joy comes
from the expanding one’s perceptions,
inhaling air without worrying what anyone thinks.
You soar within your heart,
freely and blissfully
not encumbered by restrictions that inspire guilt.

But to build an igloo requires some plans,
digging and forming solid shapes,
definable and creating proof
you labor was visible,
giving evidence of your zeal
so others can admire
the witness of your testimony,
carved to appease
the ancient order of ice disciples
who define what is a perfect performance.

How ironic it is that clouds
where the spirit longs to reach
are gossamer and misty,
seldom surviving past a storm,
but always returning in another form.

An igloo will melt and vanish,
only provide a temporary solution
not become a lasting salvation,
yet some prefer the illusion of regime foundations,
even if they are cold and leave one so numb,
because there is that sense of acceptance
from those who also do the same.

Sometime they do look up at the overhead canopy
until disappearing inside their frigid shelter
where nobody will see them shiver.

Author notes

11. “Spirituality is not religion. Religion divides people, belief in something unites them.”

Interesting. I never really thought about what an igloo would be like. Very exposed.

I just love the contrasting metaphors in this piece. You have taken the quote and responded to it wonderfully. You are so right in your assessment on the difference between the two.
    Best wishes with this.
