It starts with a scream in the head,
you finally can’t take some stupidity any longer,
just suppressing that rage or joy
until it feels like a boiling pot exploding.
Fingers struggle to find ways to script
the villains and lovers in the brain,
but it isn’t enough to report their existence,
with the heart demanding its tale be told,
so the mind becomes a director
for a movie played in its theater.
Actors created from images encountered,
epic prepared to describe
some moment in life that left a fire burning,
trying to put it out with ink.
Storms in the chest that roar with passions
stir the desire to give them drama and light
so some sanity can prevail
and the world is able to behold
the story as it was felt and dreamed.
Line between reality and fiction
blend into a single vision,
sharing it becoming a quill’s crusade.
When it is done,
upon that scroll resides some part of your insides,
spilled and drilled with a compulsion
that can’t be controlled or stopped.
Left feeling exhausted and thrilled,
knowing this is an addiction,
which discover that you can’t do only once.

Wow, waking up to this poem makes me think that this, indeed, is going to be a good day. To say that the imagery is merely amazing would almost be an insult! Though, lines 15-19 have to be my favorite because I see such a perfect image there. And I think the best thing about this poem as a whole is that anyone who has ever indulged in the poet's art can fully relate to and admire your words. You did us poets proud! Thanks for entering the contest!

And I bet you penned this in just a few minutes too, cause it reads as if it is my own thought. That's great writing when the reader is so involved they begin to feel as if they wrote what they're reading. I am in awe of the endless flow of poetry that comes from you man...so keep 'em coming! Peace and best of luck in the contest. Talk with you soon. Rhonda
