Dear Daddy,
I love you.
It wasn’t your fault,
you didn’t know,
Mommy wouldn’t let me tell,
she loved him,
even if he made my life on earth a living hell.
I know you tried,
I know you cared,
I know you love me,
I wish I was there.
I know you tried to get me,
the courts said I had to stay,
the abuser was unknown.
Mommy promised to send him away,
She didn’t.
When he hit me,
she closed her eyes.
When my legs were broken,
she didn’t hear me cry.
When he kicked me in my stomach,
she didn’t care.
When Jesus came and took me away,
she became scared.
They lied to the police,
but my voice was heard.
Through my bruises and broken bones
my story was told.
My wings were torn,
Jesus gave me new ones.
My voice was silenced,
Jesus helped me to be heard.
Daddy I love you,
I know you tried,
I know you cared,
it wasn’t your fault.

"My wings were torn,
Jesus gave me new ones."
This alone brought tears to my eyes.
I'm not religious, I'm not even close, but this was beautiful.
I've heard the idea of an abused child's wings being torn, but that they could be replaced by such a loving symbol was truly breathtaking.
I've never seen this idea expressed, and (to me) it's the best part of the poem.
The whole idea was very powerful. The forgiveness of a child to her father, so innocent and loving. Great job and, in my eyes, you should have gotten gold!

It is so sad and unfortunate that this happens entirely too often in this world. A broken marriage and a new abusive BF. The mother so insecure in herself that she refuses to do anything about it. I hate when Tory ropes me into one of these contests, I get so pissed off!! thank you for entering and best of luck to you...Scott & Tory

This brought me to tears
This for many reasons, caught my heartstrings and made me gasp
this piece was loud and clear.

to be honest here, most of the inspriation for this came from a video on you tube. when i was first sent the link and watched it, it brought tears to my eyes, my heart just stopped.

be warned, if you watch this you wont ever forget it. it was sent to me over a year ago and still i have it in my head. i am raising my niece as you know and whenever i hug her, it is hard to imagine how someone can hurt one so young, fragile and innocent.
