Empty Thoughts, Shallow Dreams

Empty Thoughts, Shallow Dreams
©copyright 2005 Bonita M Quesinberry

Oh, earth, earth, earth!
You have become empty thoughts and shallow dreams;
twisted nightmares you have filled with my children's screams.
Your lives are as a wisp of fog that disappears with the sun
and as the wind: knowing not where you go
or whence you came from.

Like a mirror's cold reflection
you see only your beauty;
knowing not you lack substance and failed your duty:
unaware you are less than nothing into which I breathed life,
one you have filled
with utter misery and strife.

By the light of day
you claim Me and appear to be righteous;
but, by night you are filth and all that's infectious.
Yet, you dare to say that by grace I have saved you from it all?
Listen well to My words:
you surely shall fall.

Time and again,
I've sent my messengers, whom your mouth has slain—
though they speak My truths and mys'tries that you might gain—
while saying you admire their devotion: such a wicked tongue.
Your stink rises to My nostrils
like rotten dung.

Should you not repent,
you are twice dead and thus shall remain;
for time is short and heaven mine only will gain.
Turn away from all your empty musings and hollow beauty
to fulfill what I've said:
no more than your duty.

Author notes

I was awakened at 5:00 the morning of 09 Feb 2005 with words swirling through my mind; yet, it was so early that I thought to sleep another hour. The Holy Spirit was determined, thus the words would not stop; so, I arose and took pen to paper. Everyone who reads this, please, please… listen and obey. ~BonnieQ
