Just For One Night

From the pub I can see the place where we met
And remember all the time we’ve spent.
You gave me a kiss, held my hand,
Then you left.

It was hard to see you go.
The days moved by so slow;
I’d fall asleep thinking of you
And wake up alone-

Until tonight.
Now everything feels so right.
It can do no harm;
Just fall asleep in my arms,
After all, we only have one night.

I like the way your hair falls around your face,
You always know just the right things to say.
Imagine what we could have
If only you could’ve stayed.

But it isn’t hard to see
Some things just aren’t meant to be:
In the morning you’ll be gone
And you won’t hear a word from me.

So tonight,
I want to show you the time of your life.
Hold you in my arms,
Fall in love with your charm,
After all, we only have one night.

Author notes

I'm wondering if the grammar seems acceptable. I'm finding songwriting harder than poetry now for some reason...
Anyway, just let me know what you think about the song.

    I plan to revise this poem: please leave constructive criticism!

  • I can feel the emotions here. It feels like I'm in your shoes, experiencing your yearning and sorrow as you see that girl leaving. I think it's good the way it is.
