Jack and Jill went up the hill
To find the ragman's daughter
Jack fell on her, broke his duck
thinks, "What a day for good luck."
Up Jack went in manly fashion
As fast as he could caper
Threading the needle with a laugh
Said, better than readin't paper.
Jill was pleased to have him home
And say "My Lord and master"
She gave the other hot bath and gin
To save Jack from disaster.
To find the ragman's daughter
Jack fell on her, broke his duck
thinks, "What a day for good luck."
Up Jack went in manly fashion
As fast as he could caper
Threading the needle with a laugh
Said, better than readin't paper.
Jill was pleased to have him home
And say "My Lord and master"
She gave the other hot bath and gin
To save Jack from disaster.
Feel free.

I read a rather wondrous Scots version of Jack and Jill recently. If I find the thing again, I'll let you have the link to it.

I feel this version lacks "oomph" (to use a phrase) but I love the use of the word "manly" as it has long been a fave of mine. I have written a Scots version of this - perhaps you have seen it? Do you like Irvine Welsh? I am sure you do. You will like this then: http://allpoetry.com/poem/4460365
