Thank You Dear Lord

Thank You Lord for providing an Angel
On this my Monday really Thursday night
Driving my cab all around town pel-mel
Next fare is Mom and her three year old tyke

The boy climbed in; said 'slide over for Mom'
Mom got inside and gave me an address
Son was well behaved did not carry on
Was grateful for once that I had been blessed

When we got there he stood at my shoulder
Put out his right hand as though to slap five
My head may as well have been a boulder
Then he reached around not into that jive

Arms around my neck he gave me a hug
As I felt ashamed for being so smug

Author notes

After he completed his cheek to beard squeeze;
he climbed out of my taxi piping "Bye, Cab"

Do I need to know why
a three year old tyke
would want to hug
an old taxi driver?

Answers from on high
perhaps I am liked
or even loved
as a ride provider.

    Touching story

Mmmm! Lovely and touching. "Then he reached around not into that jive"--that was a surprise, I'll bet! I enjoyed your Author's Notes as well. Good luck in the contest. (I'll hug almost anybody, even old cabbies )

In the midst of all our modern day turmoil and all the temptations to become jaded, a bright little light will sometimes softly come and sparkle before our eyes. What a lovely tale of this little/great gift. Serendipity.
