The Star That Shines Over Ireland

O little flame,
Whenever darkness falls,
Upon the world
They can see
Your light.
Even in the distance,
They can hear
Your voice
That comes from heaven.
The impeccable melodies you play
On the gleaming, onyx piano,
Are the ones you sing from
Your heart.

I say
You are a goddess
In a gray-stoned temple
Atop a lonely hill
That watches the sea
Banking itself
On the shore
And the tide
Rise and fall.
I say
You are a saint,
An angel
Sent by God.
You are a lamb
In a green pasture
Beneath the Wicklows.

Your eyes
Are cream
In diamonds
Shimmering in the sun
They gaze curiously,
But tenderly,
Into my soul,
As though
They were a mirror.
Your mahogany hair
Fly in the cool wind.
Your silk gown
Ripples
From the sea breeze
Sweeping over the cliff,
On which you stand
As you gaze out to sea.
You are
The star that shines over Ireland
And the Queen of Killiney.
I wish to tell you
How exquisite God made you,
For you, O little star,
Will never
Fade.
