Lying there, on waking,
the dawn sky is a blaze
of charcoal, cherry-red and gold.
A daily-changing marvel
to be shared with someone else,
but without you there is no-one.
Lying there, on waking,
the radio plays softly -
Vivaldi, Delius, Mozart,
stirring the soul sometimes to tears
and crying to be shared with someone else,
but without you there is no-one.
Lying there, on waking,
my body stirs at the memory
of your warmth and closeness
and the beauty of our sharing
now perforce deferred,
for without you there is no-one.
