Coulees, Clouds, and Color

Vastness across a prairie sky

While with paintbox on truck seat

I sit, while waiting for a dump

Of John Deere combine..

Pausing, while sipping iced tea,

Coulees, and lake

Make a large ribbon of color

On my horizon through my windshield

As I brush it on my watercolor paper.

Hearing the sound of distant tractor,

Fresh prairie air, my air conditioner blows,

While special sound effects of hawks,

Prairie gulls fly screeching over fallowed fields.

Cerulean sky with cirrus clouds, and tonight's

Sunset of colors will soon come.

As shadows of the sky appear in the valley below.

This is a life close to nature,

A healthy existence of enjoyment

When one can be at one with God's creation

To make a living this way is heaven, I muse.

Roar of combine tells me, to start up

The truck, once again

Another load "on the move" so they call it.

Driving at one mile an hour to drive as

He dumps the wheat into the back of the box.

As so on to more blissful reflections, on another

Harvest day

Tonight is just another day of stored memories

Forever remembered in my mind and heart!

Author notes

While reflecting back to cherished memories of being a farm wife trucking, enjoying the inspiration of the scenery, and capturing it painting...This was my strongest favorite memory of life on our farm and surroundings... We farmed in Saskatchewan,Canada.

That's one thing I dont think I have the courage to be: a farmer's wife. They are a rare breed, as they're holding together the man that's holding it together, and doing everything else he doesn't and STILL finding time to raise the kids, keep house, maintaining all that he doesn't, just to survive.
Wonderful imagery here, with the reference to watercolors and paintboxes, finding beauty in simple things like waiting on someone else.
Fabulous work, my favorite today, so far.
    Love,
