These hands are empty now,
But once they held
A baby dying.
The eyes are dry
And steady now,
But once they drowned
In a sea of grief.
These lips
Are silent now,
But once they screamed
And cried aloud
As baby’s death
Was sad announced.
This heart seems mended now,
But it was cleaved
And torn in two
And even on her better days
When all seems calm,
She still senses
Baby’s ghost
In her fragile arms.
