As If You'd Never Existed

You took me aside
And said you were leaving.
I went numb and I died inside
When I heard your words.

You didn’t want me
Anymore.  You promised that
You would never again put me
Through anything like this.

You said it would be
As if you’d never existed.
You wouldn’t be
Coming back.

You may fly through the clouds,
May forget that I’m here.
Yet you’ll still hold my heart,
Even in death, my dear.

Author notes

I don't know why exactly, but when ShiningNShadows sent me my stanza prompt for the contest I though about doing a poem about one event in particular from the second book in Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series, New Moon. The event being when Edward breaks up with Bella. Hope you enjoy it!
