Hell on Earth

Saturn seems closer than last time I saw. But
then again, who am I to judge?
...
          Only
          the last being
          on Earth.

[Isn't that
just about the simplest truth
    you've ever heard?/

There was that plan
to make the whole world green -
    a little tweaking here and there
    to make everything better.

It went wrong.

                    [Isn't it obvious?]

The was one huge kaboom,
like so many thunderclouds
pounding in unison -

          there was one huge wave
          like so many ripples
          squashed up into one -

there was one huge explosion
and everything - the whole shebang -

              everything was gone.

Stagnant pools of water lie around and
weeds seem to thrive in this
desolate, barren world.

          It needs a new name.

          If it weren't blasphemy ... if it weren't
          actually the worst place I could ever be [though it comes close] ...
         
              if I had to rename this dead, burning planet
              if it weren't blasphemy...

          I'd call it Hell.
