Grannie
was born during the worst blizzard in Kansas
so if she gets snowed in on her 99th birthday,
said that would be about par.
Grannie
liked to play with the boys,
was tough as a cobb,
could climb with the best of 'em.
Grannie
never missed Sunday school
(cuz if she did, she couldn't go to the dances.)
Grannie
was a fashion plate, always wearing big jewelry and earrings, and snappy clothes.
Hair always set weekly and teased up in between visits to the beauty shop, permed when needed. The rinse she used was "Frivolous Fawn."
Says our mother was the sweetest child, though bald the first year of life. Used strips of rag to do her hair, and when we were kids, it was pincurls.
Says her mother had the most beautiful long black hair, saved rainwater to rinse it, so long she could sit on it.
Grannie
had four babies but had that RH negative factor - only our mother survived.
Grannie
came almost every weekend to stay with us, went on all the family trips, had nicknames for all of us.
Bought the three youngest girls gogo boots one Christmas, shiny and white.
Used to go to the flea market, picking around at the dump, and one memory we both have is going together to see Dr. Zhivago at the Aztec Theater. Got so cold I went and got coats from the car; I don't think I was but 5 or so. But the ice castle and all just really got to us.
Grannie
giggling so loud back there,
my aunts sent her some dirty literature.

This works because it's about both of you, really; about her but told in your voice. The paper moon looks so much like both you and your mom, it's uncanny.

Yes, I do like it for the fact that it is from my memories of her. I showed her the paper moon and how I felt it looked just like me, and she disagreed, lol. She says I am much prettier, ha!
