There was an appearance of ruin
a landscape littered with failure
the green gone fallow and to weed...
So much trust and power conveyed
so little concern with the public weal
a dichotomy of fortune, the rulers and the ruled
so many in authority, living in the sun
the pillars of the house, sunk in shadows,
divided to fall as never before.
A miracle came when we wished,
when somehow there was courage to trust again
so soon and in such painful circumstances,
a destined sunrise to bring light and hope
wisdom in the hands upon the tiller.
Awakened to find so much of life
adrift on a wide sea, turbulence and
misadventure, foundering near shoals
craggy rocks that rip apart the seams,
enduring ties of lives, sinews;
bonds forged by time and countless sacrifice.
Now, there is an eye upon aged heads
and a vision for the youngest; the ladders
that raised our fathers and mothers
must be rebuilt, vital steps
to go from where we arrived
to the promise within each of us.
Life is precious, rare and fleeting
every day a chance to grow, not taken
is a forsaken waste of irreplaceble time.
We have the means and now can test the will
for the bent back of labor, the calls for sacrifice
the hopeful aspirations, all now
can be focused upon needs and opportunities.
it is planting time...again
rebirth and springtime... in garden America.

Very nice ...
and very nicely done. We can only hope that the planting will be fruitful and the harvest bountiful.
Thanks for entering.

I am hopeful, but I wish I could share in the immensity of this hope. It is one accompanied with the wisdom that hard work his required, a necessity for this or any garden.
The journey you portray here... the convolution of power, the depth of hardships, that displaced feeling... all circumvented by the miracle of new hope and its accompanying attributes... is truly inspirational to read.
I loved that line most about "steps to go before we arrive to the promise within each of us." I had to stop and re-read that several times and just take it all in. For me, it seemed to be the poem in a nutshell. The "steps" imply the work of patient diligence; the "promise" the hope and assurance; the "within" that is is not just a work of the hands or back, but also the spirit; and "each of us" is reminiscent of equality...both in requirement and in benefit.
You brought the goods on this one, and I should comment more, but I'm tired. Let me just commend this wonderful piece and thank you for the vision and voice you bring.

I like your wishes for "garden America" with its "courage to trust again." Hope it lasts.
Enjoyed your write.
