Rivers

Simple portraits painted
scenery, beauty;
a river flows, painted red,
the culmination of loneliness
drip-dripping,
from a source unknown;
families play oblivious on the banks
and no-one ever notices why,
no-one ever notices anything at all.

It is nothing but a tributary,
cascading towards a scarlet sea,
children frolic
on the beach,
parents laughing,
lovers canoodling behind sunscreens,
the broken, unoccupied deckchair is telling
yet, it also is overlooked,
does anyone notice I am missing?

I twist in the open
from mountain to shore,
blood-soaked fingers reaching,
searching desperately
for a hand to pull me free
from the stream,
but the same old current holds me down,
destined as always to be alone,
destined as always to sink and drown

and the world plays on again;
no-one even noticed anything at all.

Chosen Option: 4) Alone:
ever felt like no matter how crowded you were you still felt the same empty hole inside your heart? Why do you think you feel that? Do you ever get over it?

    Wow; this was so emotional...

    a lot is unravelled here, and the feeling
    of loneliness everyone goes through
    at some point. You really took the
    option and made it your own. I especially
    like the last stanza-- held the most depth for me.

    Cleverly composed!

    Best of luck & thanks for entering
