Poison On My Tongue

So quick to say the words we think we feel,
so short the time we have together.
Yet much I have learned from you,
It's a relief to be broken,
for I knew it would happen soon,
but to know I'm still with you,
is confusing as love's tune.
I want you in my heart,
yet together we chose to leave,
at least for now, perhaps sometime
we'll be together again.
You were is still an are
but what are we exactly?
Why do I feel this connection,
it makes my heart skip a beat,
when I'm with you I am drowning,
in my heart,  feelings, my thoughts.
Friends we are, but it seems bitter,

a taste of poison on my tongue,

my tears weep for us,

my heart feels somewhat shattered.

Because I'm with you, I know I'll be okay.

So short the time we had together,

but how long our road together seems,

an eternity we'll have together,

if we choose to go that path.
