passing moon

A vision brought red  crested cardinal
to pitch of night
in stand and stare, witnessed
my lone presence

wordless conversation
brought mysteries and answers.

Dawn whitened the world
left us in a determined shadow

for we had not finished
a most interesting discourse

on Sun to come and passing Moon,
receded stars and dreams that foretell.

Here more than the bird and nature, I sense a feel of sadness, or that almost sadness.
Words left unsaid and the answers we create in our minds to questions we didn't make.
I'm in love with your short poems, you write them so well

Some of my most pressing questions have been answered in wordless conversation. The picture of the beautiful bird witnessing the soliloquy added a beautiful image to this short but powerful poem. Peace, Liz

  • Well, of all birds with which to share this search into the things past and to come, I was so pleased you chose a cardinal. I have such an affinity with cardinals. A family nests in my garden each year and I love to observe them and their patterns.

Anyhow, they seem to know the timing of things...seasons and such... more than the other birds, or at least that is what I have always imagined. So it is nice to see them here in such a deep conversation. I love that idea of being left in a "determined shadow"... it gives the idea that the answers sought after, though not presently understood, are within reach.

    Beautiful poetry. Intriguing idea.
