Taking that step off to the side
Trudging off that beaten path
Hands in pockets and kicking stones
Head hung down, watching the earth below
Shuffling through the dead to find something new
Anything to bring a light of excitement
Headlights of fun disaster just to catch that glimpse
Of the lost adolesence that won't return again
Stomp around with the ideas of anarchy
Contradicting the wishes of peace
Understanding a hit won't bring anything back
But crazed thoughts and fucking disappointment
Or the tranquility and simplicity found in shattering glass
Bringing in that calming breath
Missing that laughter that brought tears
And the tears that were cured with laughter
Just keep on walking, kid
Even if the old path could be found again
Its so overgrown, so different now
And it will only eventually lead back to that beaten path
Author notes
