Read to Me

Read to me,
for there is still magic in this world
to be found.

Read to me,
for I am young,
and there are many adventures to be had.

Read to me,
for I am old,
and there's one more Adventure to be had.

Read to me,
for I wish to be a knight in armor,
and you may open the portal.

Read to me,
for the time of dreaming is nigh,
and I have but scratched the surface.

Read to me;
throw wide the gates of fantasy for all the world,
through which may be brought forth
imagination.

Imagination!
Just a word,
a mindless, meaningless stringing together of letters and characters,
a conglomerate of pixels on a screen,
or a stain of ink on a page in the shape of letters.
But contained in that word--
no--
--contained in all words--
a power.
Something so powerful, so infinitely wonderful,
so indeliby tremendous.
With them,
we have been taken to the farthest reaches of the world,
of other worlds,
to the deepest space
and bleakest, darkest fathoms of the sea.
And with them,
we can still go farther.

Read to me,
because one day I will be a writer,
and there will be a future,
and in it,
there should be people who read to others,
and they'll need something to read.

    A splendid ramble!

Glad to meet you, fine poet Sir! May I please post this excellent poem on the poetry blog I run for a newspaper in California? It is Poetry Planet, and we get a huge number of hits each day. Of course, I would feature you as the day's guest poet and your name and copyright would go with the poem... and I would send you the link immediately.
