Ode to Worms

Wriggly and squiggly
childhood past
mud pies and bug pies
and memories that last.

The good and the bad times
when loved or when hated
when gifts were all counted
as nature created.

One for the gullet
and two down the flew
count all the flavors
swallow, don't chew.

There's dirt, there's decay
what childhood glee
swallow your goodies
you've only had three?

Now you can do better
so here's a few more
breakfast is waiting
and lunch is in store

Dinner's delightful
just wait for the best
you'll start with a big one
and gobble the rest.

No don't tell your mother
cause she'll throw a fit
just clean up your face
and your clothes, just a bit.

Now run along home
and sit down at your table
when dad asks "you hungry?"
just tell him a fable.

"I'm sick, do I have to?"
maybe cheating, a lie
but what could compare
to delightful worm pie?

Author notes

OMG... it makes me giggle every time I read it. Sometimes I wonder why i don't rhyme more often...

  • Too cute! I grow the little buggers myself for the garden and plants, and it truly is fascinating to watch their cycles, but no, I have tasted one......yet.

    adorable

I really love this! It reminds me of my son who will eat just about anything. He is 13 now but love to joke about eating worms. I don't know if he has really tried some but I wouldn't be surprised. Wonderful rhyming and rhythm.

This reminds me of my son lmao. When he was little he had to taste everything in the garden, snails were actaully his favourite.

    EWW LOL

Friendship is like peeing on yourself: everyone can see it, but only you get the warm feeling that it brings.

Exceptionally cute and whimsical. Almost stretching it at the fable line but alltogether well done=D
