Nothing

You want to pull out a million of the brightest stars,
Put them in your pocket, and make them stay the same
Or you want to catch a thousand fireflies in jar
Without leaving holes, without feeling the pain
You want to wish your life was better, maybe somewhere new
Or maybe you wish your life wasn't yours at all
But you never think about anyone else but you
And you never realize it's your own fall
How could you expect a dime if you never give a penny
How could you ask for more if you've never given any
In my heart, I ask how you sleep at night
Or how you wake up each morning with the sun shining bright
When all you do is shrug and say things you'd never want to hear
And all you do is make problems bigger, still smaller than your fears
So much that you can't see past what you want and what you feel
So crazy, you can't see what you want from what is truly real
And you've got all these questions, all this anger burning up inside
And in your heart you know you're hurt but all you show is pride
Some ones, they try to get close to you, but all you do is rob them
But that's not so easy for me to say, "no it's just your problem"
It's the weight of a world, the problem it is, although you never see it
For people to see potential in you although you'll never be it
And while all those diamonds in your pocket, they might shine for a while
And all those fireflies in that jar, through twilight you will smile
But someday fire turns to ashes, the lights they turn to fade
And you'll remember you have nothing, cause nothing's what you gave
