Were you frightened when told you had breast cancer,
as I swam and grew in your womb?
Did you feel torn when doctors asked you to abort me,
or was it an easy decision?
Did you lie awake filled with worry and strife;
worry about not being there for your small children already here?
Did you feel loved and taken care of in your illness,
or did you feel neglected and alone, as I have heard?
My heart aches to think you may have felt alone in your struggles;
hearing that those closest to you were not helpful,
or supportive, as they should have been.
Oh to have just one more day!
I would enshroud you with compassion, and lay healing hands
upon your exhausted and pain ridden body and mind;
take every precaution to nourish your tortured soul;
inject it with the inmost secret treasure of peace of mind.
I would hold you, knowing there will be no tomorrow,
selfishly absorbing the feel of your arms around me;
embedding the memories of how that special mother’s love feels;
for I have no memory.
I have no memory, and oh how I have yearned for that,
and oh how I have missed you!
Oh! What I would give for just one more day!

Such a sorrowful piece full of so much love in every word. What a wonderful mother she was to sacrifice herself to give life to you. A very heartfelt piece that has brought a tear to my eye. Every word used showed me the compassion and true love that was held by your wonderful mother. Such sadness to not be there for you, but knowing your life would continue. I agree with the person below....You deserved more than an honourable win. It's pure gold!

Oh, hon - this is so very heart-wrenching; and the love is so powerful. That connection is there; even though you never met face to face - that love you hold for one another is eternal. I am overwhelmed by this beautiful and compassionate write; and I so feel your need. I am sorry for your loss. She loved you so!

Having lost my mother to breast cancer I can identify with your life. The difference is that when my mom was on her last particle of strength she asked if I would like a home made milkshake and a cheeseburger? I tried to stop her, but she would have none of it. It was her last act of kindness toward her son. Let me assure you that your mother would have done the same if she chose the things you shar in the heart ripping piece. She would have courted you while her pain was put behind her for the moment. Great heartfelt write Patty. RC
