Perception plays out like an enchanted musician
compelled to release a haunting melodious harmony,
an acuity that exudes from our persona,
cultivating our own unique music
that was originally gleaned from our life experiences,
having finally given way to birth in our thought life.
We being held prisoner by this compulsion to interpret
according to our individual psyche
isn’t exactly like the varying electricity that sparks within us to keep us alive
but a partner in its similarity, motivating us into action.
We are tapestries available to all who look upon us
even though we are slightly blind to ourselves.
On the inside we are worlds apart from everyone
but in the flesh we are all standing on the same ground.
We tell on ourselves in every thing we do.
Our actions speak for us when our words fail to do us justice;
therefore it is imperative
that we choose wisely the words we use
to describe ourselves and our beliefs
so that our life in the eyes of others won't exist in a rip tide
and we find our selves drowning in our own confusion.
It is impossible to know the true intention of individuals,
and what is said of them to us is open to interpretation.
It is not the words that are said to us that hurt us
but our perceptions of them
and how we take their meaning onto ourselves.
We are our own masters of destruction or salvation
according to where we are mentally.

You have truly nailed this one. Lives have been altered forever sometimes not by what was said, but by what was heard. Internalizing the message we change it to fit our life experiences, expectations, self-image twisting forever the original intent of the words themselves. I tried writing something to show this once. It was a dismal failure, but one of the lines was, You said "I love you", but that's not what I heard. You have done a phenomenal job of getting your point across. Lovely.

perception creates it's own reality.. judgement should not be based on anybodies reality but our own experience with that which we are "judgeing" A very thought-provoking poem. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you for reading my poem. Perception does create it's own reality, doesn't it? Thank you for your comment.

This is Life, not 101, but an advanced
course to remind us of what was not learned
or not put into practice.
"Perception," a magic word!
Your wisdom and life experiences
spill out all over the page.
