There just wasn't a way to know
That when you locked your room door
Hopped into your car, left the campus
It would be the last time we'd see you
There just wasn't a way to know
That when you hugged your mom
Said "I love you, see you again soon"
"Soon" would take on a new meaning
And when you crossed that state line
Into Oklahoma, that was the last state line
You'd ever cross, I 35 would be the last
Road you'd ever travel
February 22, 2009
The last day you walked this earth
February 22, 2009
The day you returned Home
We'll miss you, Marcus
And we can't wait to see you again
In Memory of Marcus P Manny: a tremendous athlete, friend, and person to all who ever spoke to him.

Author notes
This sucks. But hey, he just died and I'm processing okay? I wasn't his best friend, but I'd talked to him and watched him play football at TC all four years he was here. My cousin and him were friends. Crazy that he's gone. What a guy, that Marcus. Rest in Peace. Please be praying for his family and friends.
Please tell me what you think

I am sorry for your loss, and you were truly strong to be able to write this piece so shortly afterward. I think I know many people who can relate to this piece, being an NIU student, but at least his last words were "I love you," to his parents. The I-35 interstate seems to bring a lot of sadness, though, with bridge collapses, accidents, and whatnot. :/ Anyway, I wish you the best, and am sure that Marcus is acting as a guardian angel in heaven, now. You write with such emotion and depth that I am sure he would be grateful for.
