A pot to boil water, then I saw
The Cooper Hawk in wait, I was in awe.
It twitched its head and moved about to trace
The boughs and trees for signs of food. It cased
My yard and turned silently spread and yawed
Above the frozen land in chase of law,
A jay or wren, it soared after in space.
The wren or blue jay wove around the homes
In through encrusted, frozen trees pursued,
A hawk of stealth, a pretty raptor flew
And heaved along urban intrepid domes;
As whistles steam, the kettle grabs me shrewed,
The path of predator and prey imbue.
Author notes
I woke this morning and caught sight of a Cooper Hawk perched out my kitchen window, on a red maple tree out back. The yard was all silence, as snow still covers the ground. After twenty minutes it flew across the yard to another tree, then over the houses north and out of my view. It is a beautiful bird, and inspired this attempt of a sonnet.

This is an amazing sight you've conjured up for us. Gosh, I'll say this: wish I had seen that too. Often on my way to work I see a hawk or two (and recently) birds that strangely resemble vultures (though I recently read that in some categorical listing of bird species, etc., vultures are also referred to as hawks). Whatever the case, the title caught my attention and your skill kept me reading. I really enjoyed this very much.

The hawk is one of mt favorite birds. Your words so very well written you paint a beautiful picture of nature and a wonderess bird.

You did a great job with it and while I'm no real critic for the different types of poetry so I cant judge of that. But I like you have seen them on the hunt and am amazed at thier acrobatics while flying through the think branches of the trees hunting birds or a small squirrel. Except here they are called Chicken Hawks.

An attempt? I find you did a marvelous job at creating a sonnet. Beautiful imagery, felt I was there.

As I read this poem I find myself with you watching the grace and beauty of the hawk. Written in perfect decasyllable you have created a true work of art with this beautiful Italian sonnet. Bravo!
