A Course in Transcendence

Sanity is a fragile promise
when the moon finds itself
held in the jaws of a dragon.

Wisdom is seldom seen
as the blood is awash in panic.
Ancient fears scaling the walls
of our sensibilities hosing us down
with the fast beats of adrenaline.

The dragon flies tonight seeking
diamonds and gold to gild his soul.
Looking for herds of cattle to still
the pangs in his twisted gut.
Heroes, wrapped in armor braving
the field of honor, an annoyance
swept aside by beating wings,
claws and scales harder than steel.

Earth, a way station, on the path
serving a dragon’s growth. One more
pebble on a course of learning
served by elders to their young
fire breathing kin. “Time of dragons”
so full of a memory buried in our cells,
children accept the reality as parents
give thanks to a fantasy being put to bed.

The dragons have passed us by.
We  sheathe our madness in self-destruction.
Our course upon the path stagnating
in a cul-de-sac of our own creation.

The dragon comes to life.. and lives within us all, guiding us on our journeys if we but allow it. I love dragons.. and their ways.. for without the will to fight for what you want.. mankind would still be living in cave and afraid of fire and his shadow..

First thanks for the silver trophy. A dragon truly lives in each one of us. We need to find it and let its fire warm our spirit.
      Love, Tom B.

If you study the underlying message of the dragon to the worm Oroborus (sp?) you find how it is deeply entwined with man's sense of spiritual wisdowm and emotional freedom. Both things desired but frightening in thier gifts. ( Be careful what you pray for, You might get it. )

      Thanks for your cheers.

      Love, Tom B.

I loved how you wrote about dragons - they are a mystical force, strong and fierce, flying into your imaginations breathing a fire of inspiration. I also like how you twisted fantasy with sanity, blending the two yet seperating them at the same time.

You made this an enjoyable read, twisted with childhood memories and stories that we loved having told to us over and over again.

Dragons are a spiritual beast. Our war with them really a reflection of the war we fight within ourselves. Glad you enjoyed the poem

I love dragons for their fire and wisdom. They are creatures from another paradigmn, a greater continum of understanding. They move with reason beyond our understanding. Least that is the way I see it. Glad you enjoyed.
