Aquarela

From Bahía to Ceará,
from Pão de Açúcar to
the stony arch
over coconut sands
of Jericoacoará,

Mango sunsets play
with samba-drunken beats,
sugar-cane accordions
paraded on confetti songs
for the living and 'for-all'.

Paint me watercolors
from tapioca hearts,
entrance me with
your hips that sway,
thirsting for a cup of water
birds can drink today.

Be the rain inside the forest
for a grey-skied world,
a feathered-rainbow warrior
always wearing a 'sorriso'
and exalted sweet cadence.

Let the guava sunrise
come to feast on samba again.

Author notes

Dedicated to my wife from Ceará, BR
The northeast of Brasil has a music rythm called 'Forro' whose name
I think derives from the english expression "for all" (para toas pessoas)
please correct me if I'm wrong... Also, there is a popular drink
called Cachaça made with sugar cane, and an expression for it is
'cachaça is the water that birds cannot drink'
'sorriso' means smile.

Hm, caipirinha geladinha, agora fiquei com vontade de beber uma
You my friend, will be in very short time Brazil's stepson
I can see that you have your senses open to sights and tastes while you were there. You seem to have understood the Brazilian way of 'relaxing'.
Your poem is lovely, and the reference to 'água que passarinho não bebe' so true and it was quite amusing see that written by someone who isn't from Brazil.
    thanks for the 'sorrisos'
