we are women of the 19th century,
who have mastered the art of
concealment.
marrying friends, writing to lovers,
erasing pearls from collarbones
in desperate cries for
purity;
are we liars, or simply trying to
keep up?
[oh, by the way,
the dates change,
but the women stay the
same.
many apologies for the inconvenience.]

I love this piece! Your words are beautiful and descriptive, and there is a lot of emotion between the lines of this poem. The sad, slightly ironic tone is intriguing too.
"erasing pearls from collarbones
in desperate cries for
purity;" Those were my favorite lines.
Well penned
This is an amazing write.
