The life and times of a war ridden people

On this 25th day of 1865

I write to you my love

Hoping beyond all hope that you are well.  I know you must be tired, afraid, and feeling all alone but that just is not the case for you carry me in your heart as I carry you.

Life must be hard where you are.  These are troubled times indeed.  I pray every day that the Lord is keeping you safe and that he will return you to me unharmed.

Your parents asked me to tell you that your sister Annabell gave birth to a baby girl this past month.  Both daughter and mother are doing fine.  Your sister named the darling little blue eyed girl after your grandmother Elizabeth.  She was so proud when Annabell told her.

Your father has plowed the west field and put corn out but it isn't doing very well as he doesn't have a lot of help right now.  Not with all the young men off fighting this terrible war.  But he does what he can.

Also, puppy is now a grown dog and has a family of his own... He found a stray dog and brought her home pregnant.  Now there are 6 little puppies of various colors and temperments running around.  Your little brother Charile has already picked out one to be his best friend.  They are together constantly.  Playing and running around the yard.  It is nice to see him smile.  When you left he had stopped doing so for so long...

As for me my love,  I am doing as well as I can without you.  Daily I pray for your safe return.  I dream of us walking, holding hands through the fields... of you, dancing with me at the socials.  Of us, attending Church.  And of you, asking my father for my hand.

These thoughts are all that keep me sane in a world torn apart with this horrible war.

I love you with all my heart.  And I want you... here beside me.  Not off fighting this terrible war.  However, I understand that you have a need to be there.

Still, I miss you.

I'll write again soon.  I hope you read this and know that you have people here waiting, wanting you to come home.

We all love you.

Your loving family, friends, and I your loving fiancee.

This was heartfelt and a beautiful letter that makes me reminisce back to the latter 19th century, purely because of this...

"Your father has plowed the west field and put corn out but it isn't doing very well as he doesn't have a lot of help right now."

    Brilliant...experienced poetess!!

    All-in-all, an exquisite penning.
Thank you for entering, and best of luck!

      wow

Thanks for the lovely comment on this... yeah I recently watched a show about the war and in it the family wanted all the boys to not choose sides... they were to be neutral... and stay and work their farm... yet the war invaded and several of the boys were killed... One child, stolen and put in a prison camp... he escaped and made it home. 2 sons killed looking for the stolen child. A son and his wife killed at the farm leaving a newborn baby girl. Pain from all sides in this movie. Yet the father held them all together. Through out it all.

When writing this I just tried to place myself in that time period. I would like to think that I did well. Thanks again for commenting.
