I walk the pathway of my choice, regrets?
Yes; quite a few; my deviations legend.
I strayed so often, lost myself, then
Found that track again,going somewhere.
Friends and family, those who I held so dear
Let me wander off at will; the pathway
Was not well defined, tracks led off to left
Or right, at times there seemed no ending.
Always leading me to something, unknown,
Not experienced before, not expected,
Not wanted, but needed. Was I to know
Which way was best; which way would make my
Household blessed? I receive what comes my
Way with good grace, all I can muster.
I make the choice, I pay the price, then seek
The path I lost; again I get a forward
Motion. Life has had its ups and downs,
It's heartbreak and it's joy, it's happiness
And it's sorrow. For me there is ever
The promise of another goal to achieve,
Another friend to make, another day
To ask the unanswerable questions.
Yes; quite a few; my deviations legend.
I strayed so often, lost myself, then
Found that track again,going somewhere.
Friends and family, those who I held so dear
Let me wander off at will; the pathway
Was not well defined, tracks led off to left
Or right, at times there seemed no ending.
Always leading me to something, unknown,
Not experienced before, not expected,
Not wanted, but needed. Was I to know
Which way was best; which way would make my
Household blessed? I receive what comes my
Way with good grace, all I can muster.
I make the choice, I pay the price, then seek
The path I lost; again I get a forward
Motion. Life has had its ups and downs,
It's heartbreak and it's joy, it's happiness
And it's sorrow. For me there is ever
The promise of another goal to achieve,
Another friend to make, another day
To ask the unanswerable questions.

You have done very well in portraying the feelings of yourself and many others in this poem. I can especially relate to the verses in this poem. We cannot see the exact relevance and value of the path we lead and the chices we make along it. Just take it easy, keep up the great writing and remember that you are always moving forward in a way.

Thank you for your asute comments. I long ago decided to take things easy and make the best of whatever comes. In many ways life has been good, perhaps not happy, but never dull and boring. Even now, in my twilight years there are still challenges to be met. There is no longer a rush to meet those challenges, they will await tomorrow.

Oh I know this feeling well... I think what we all want from life is to leave some sort of mark.. and to believe that this life isn't all there is.
Great write!

Hi Jackie, At last I have had a look behind and a look forward. Now , I'm here. Appreciate your thoughts and comments.

A needed taking-stock of what was and could be. I look at the past and wonder how I survived. I look at the future and wonder if I will survive. I look at the present and know life is what it is and I can only change myself, not life. Hmm, maybe that's a poem? Buff

Thanks for your thoughts here. Yes, you have the poems message, life is what comes along and you can only control/change yourself. Makes decisions that much easier to make.

A wonderful write...one I, if not all can relate to.
A soul searching write with great depth..it's interesting that the deviations often also bring greater depth of learning and / or understanding of self or life.
An enjoyable read, thanks for sharing.

Thanks Susan, Sometimes life expects everyone to have a good look at themselves and take stock before moving on. I am now moving on again.

Great poem which I think is one which will get many people thinking. I always thought I was on the wrong planet myself...didn't think I fitted with the rest of the creatures on the planet..lol!!!!!!!!!!Seriously though, it is a very strange and wonderous question. Where did we all come from. I still don't know where I am going, but I know where I'd like to go. Your poems always manage to throw up questions which make me seek answers. Excellent piece.

Once again I say thank you for a comprehensive comment. Answers will come, but only when we are ready to take on board what they contain.

I like this Bob, I'm still looking for answers...

Answers are not readily found for the questions you ask. I am also seeking answers, probably to different questions. The answers will come when we are able to deal with them, we are not ready yet. I am grateful for your comments and thoughts.

Thanks my friend. I'm just curious to know exactly where I came from, I know where I'm going now, but didn't know back then. Does that make sense ?
-
-
makes perfect sense... for I still dont know where Im going

Perhaps you are still on one of those many side tracks that make life difficult. Time and patience will win in the end. Enjoy what you can when you can.
