reflection

i have seen the sky
through the eyes of byron
and i cannot
foolishly ask for more

i have seen the smile
a daisy can bring
and emily's drunken bee
on the foxglove's purple spell

i pass the steel-blue river
and i wonder of hemingway
with his grumbling belly
when the fish won't bite

a breathless noon
was the epitome of poetry
with my walk to beauty
and back

    MuddyKing

I was on the road when I commented earlier, but I wanted to communicate how this poem affects me. Muddyking is one of my favorite poets on here, prolly one of my top 5. The reason is that he challenges my mind beyond normal poetry. His use of metaphor is expertly expressed. He has a way of taking you to a moment in time and his voice becomes your voice, as though you are writing a diary of your days on a long, endless journey of "reflection" and experience. There is always a lost love sorrow woven between the words in Richard's(Muddyking)poetry that offers the reader/fan almost a sacred feeling. Each time I read Richard's work, I'm humbled. Richard never has an ego, except when he's spitting fire and wanting to win a contest-but even then, his poems are written with respect, humility, and even though he's an Ace, one would never believe he believes it. To me, he is the rugged, handsome harp blower in a box car-maybe heir to a fortune that he never believed in claiming. For his heart lies with the road.. Much care for you Richard.

The words of work that colors eye,
a deeper sky to paint an ocean,
    pumping heart to salted motion
lungs breathe sage and blossom sigh...

    wonderful Muddy
