Wherefore comes the morning's light?
What profit does it earn?
Perhaps one day it shall decide
that to no rules it needs abide
and all the heavens spurn,
and then leave all the world in night.
What then would the world have done?
"The dawn won't come!" they'll cry.
And some will sloth and sleep in late,
while others still will grow irate,
then glaring at the sky,
they will demand arise the sun.
"Do be off," the Sun will say.
"Too long I've climbed for you
across the firmament's expanse,
performed for you my daily dance
atop the sky's dome blue.
I shall remain home today."
Then the gleeful Moon will call:
"Ho ho! the night goes on!
Good stars, return! We play again!
Where mortals lose do we now gain!
The Sun withholds his dawn,
and we are free to run withal!"
Then the jealous Sun will see
the schemes the Moon has planned,
and all the fun it now enjoys;
the racous romp and happy noise,
and say, "Leave, I demand!
For reserved is Day for me!"
The moon departs, Sun comes out,
and mortals dance below.
"The Day is mine," the Sun will say.
"I'll not let Moon to have his way."
and brighter then will grow,
as moon leaves to pine and pout.

Author notes
Sheesh, I've been having this serious Sun & Moon Rivalry motif going on in my poems, and I dunno why. Anyhow, this poem uses a reflexive rhyme scheme; that is, the pattern is such that the last three lines in a stanza are a mirror image of the previous three, like so:
abccba, deffed, ghiihg, and so on. You get the idea.

This poem made me smile, and it's been a rather rough weekend so I really needed that. Well done! Hope you're doing well, Xel. Keep up the good work! -Liz
