I am the Big Satan!

He educated me that the Iranians refer to America as, “The Big Satan,” and they refer to Israel as, “The Small Satan.”

As I have pressed into my thirties, “Who I am?” has weighed more and more heavily upon me. The Israeli has just, and finally, lifted that weight. I have been pulled out from the shadow of that question: I am a piece of The Big Satan! I will pitch my pitchfork in the direction of the world, my reddish, burned body in a creepy-crouch, and twist my face evilly at unsuspecting innocents – for their shock and horror at my horribleness will delight me!

Now that my personal inquiry has been answered for me, I can carry on with a lighter step down my fire-fringed path – I’ll get used to the horns and fork…

    Interesting

One thing to note, the role of "Satan" has different meanings within the two countries. Americans who are influenced by Christianity see Satan as the adversary of God and Man. Within Islam, Shaitan is often seen as a fool or a character full of trickery. It is easy to misinterpret the meaning because of cultrual differences. The term "Big / Little" Satan is also nothing new, Khomeini used the term quite often in the late 70s. -- Colin Powel argued not all that long ago, "Far from being the great Satan, I would say we are the great protector. The US rebuild Europe and Japan after WWII, defeated communism and fascism and the only land we ever asked for was enough land to bury our dead."

I'm not exactly a fan of neo-conservative policies - I hold many strong beliefs about the US need to learn how to live in a global world, and even believe we are moving in the right direction.

In any case, no need to ramble on .. thought provoking and relevant. Been a couple of years I think, since I last visited here and really read much.

Wanted to say hello and nice work.

whoa .. i wouldn't want to wade in to take a position on this one. it's a big can with enough worms for every one.
"the big satan" ... thats an adviserial device or instrument akin to a fox in the chicken coop that bound to stir things up. there's no room for those kind of labels in rational discussion.
i bet this got you thinking, i know it did me.
