Tribute to William

Honoured I entered the Cottage of Dove climbing into the garden
where words of love and nature did spring from him and Dorothy
penned between their two hearts did sing.

Enraptured my visit took me to his grave surrounded in daffodils
and so glad I came, I saw where he lived and his final place of rest
for dear William is a poet that I've always loved best.

So many of his poems have guided me over years 'Michael' gave
me strength and 'daffodils' gave me tears but tears of inspiration
as with a sadness bring replacing hope and love to make my own heart sing

I journeyed on to Rydal Mount the contrast seemed so stark
from Dove Cottage's tiny beginnings to this place of true remark
the garden stretched our far beyond this poets life fair could respond

I wonder if dear William though if you preferred Dove Cottage
so much smaller never quite as grand but didn't you prefer
life simpler..

The butterflies brushed and flickered that day my thoughts went to
Dorothy when she used to say 'be careful lest you brush the dust
from their wings'

I pictured you William with your sister adored easily conceiving this
magic drawn,  natures landscape in all of it's glory helped inspire
to pen this story

How perceptive your eye William always displaying
such a keen observation none matched you William ever
for philosophical narration.

'Michael' was a tale of a hard working man but then
of the Oak picture if you can, the mighty Oak
stood through all of the years
surpassing the vale of sadness and tears.

Strength and fortitude is what you conveyed
through all of your poetry ever displayed

For those with an eye it is readily seen
so hat's off dear William, I bow to your talent,
truly the finest poet who has ever lived or been

Author notes
