Sunset

The sky unfolded itself
one blistered layer of grapefruit skin
after another.
Ashed roses dissipated through the indigo air,
pulsing with stars and
the silent moon.

She watches as time is peeled apart
and measured in color,
splashed behind mountains
and purposely burned
in our retinas.

I wanted to filter the earth
and translate the shadows
into complex hues.

But the air is cold now, and I am weak
as a child, and tremble with the
weight of one abandoned
by the moon.

Please tell me what you think
