sobriety sucks sometimes
when everything is flat
and my delicate dedication
falls off the page
a straight shooter gone awry
i never heard birds at night
or the foolish questions
of concentration
the assembly line ran smooth
and the magic of many voices
were drunk with laughter
now
it's just work
i see sunbeams
that shaded my days
and sagging faces
that raised my glass
funny the things we inherit
all the leaky valves
and the endless reign
saturating like a puzzle
i miss my redhead from loretto
and the corn at star hill farm
beethoven's fifth is flat
but i can't blame him anymore
maybe i'll blame hemingway
and the salt in the sea
or the apex of nirvana
in the last drop
of my delicate dedication

I love it when you enter my contests, you always remind me that I don't know why I don't read you more often.
Love love love the prompt you chose and the direction you went with it. This is what happens when I write on the bus, I get lost in a tangent, and ..really, there is a lifetime and a whole person created there.
Sometimes happy, sometimes sad
but always an addict.
Thanks for touching me with your words and taking the time to enter.

Such a constant and consistent tone throughout the piece, conveys the art within. This melding of description and emotions shares intimacy with the reader. Thank you for this glimpse.
