Statue

This is the story of a girl,
Who was the image of a statue,
Motionless, cold, pretending she was fine,
Thinking that no one knew.

Everyday she’d crumble,
As others thought she was building up,
Every chip she attempted to cover,
But she was never truly that tough.

She’d thought she was sliding by,
Never revealing her true pain,
But one glance would change it all,
And as she looked away,
suddenly nothing looked the same.

There was color in this world,
Beautiful ones of every shade,
He’d smiled at her, she remembered,
And knew that image would never fade.

She couldn’t help but wonder,
Had he seen through who she was?
She could feel everything changing now,
And he was her because.

Not much time had passed,
Before she knew who she was once more,
But looking into his eyes,
brought on a love she’d never known before.

Those eyes were filled with kindness,
And love that was immeasurable,
She’d never met anyone so amazing,
So breath taking and admirable.

He helped her through every day,
Removing every piece that weighed her down,
He was her rescuer, saving her from herself,
She didn’t comprehend how he marveled at what he had found.

Well years had passed since that one little glance,
No day complete without him by her side,
One day they passed a girl who seemed so frozen,
And stared at the girl as she cried.

It was her, she remembered, not too long ago,
Who seemed so lost and so dazed.
She was that statue who was constantly falling apart,
She took one look at her past, closing her eyes as she prayed.

She turned away, never looking back,
When she was startled by a whisper in her ear,
I love you he said as he squeezed her palm,
She looked up at him and smiled,
As she listened to the most important words she’d ever hear.

This is the story of a girl so lost,
Rescued by a boy who showed her love would always be enough.
This is the story of a girl who fought through it all,
But more importantly,
this is the story of us.
