Come lay with me,
Beneath the cherry blossom tree,
Where the spirit of freedom roams,
Where we would both stay before you left me alone.
Come lay with me beneath the cherry blossom tree.
Don’t you remember the times we shared?
It’s okay to think about. I know you’re scared.
I remember how you used to run with me,
Your golden hair flowing free,
Your laughter filled the air,
We felt no pain, completely unaware.
Come lay with me beneath the cherry blossom tree.
Oh how the petals would fall on your face,
Each one finding a tear to erase,
I held onto you when you couldn’t smile,
I should have known you were drifting away all the while.
Come lay with me beneath the cherry blossom tree.
I don’t know what happened that day,
I cried as you left, while the blossoms turned gray.
Your face no longer looked the same,
I no longer knew this girl, or what you became.
I laid alone beneath the cherry blossom tree.
You didn’t have to leave me,
Though many would disagree,
Those like me remain even after you leave,
Even when you’ve lost your will to believe.
I still lay beneath the cherry blossom tree.
I can see you when I peer through the sky,
You seem so happy, and yet you always cry.
The biggest part of us both is gone,
I know you think about me, but you keep moving on.
If you would just come lay beneath the cherry blossom tree.
The innocence and laughter you once knew,
The days you spent in happiness before
you became this woman you grew into,
Still remain here in me,
Beneath the cherry blossom tree.
I know we’ll be together again one day,
And run through the fields as we play,
I will wait for the day you’ll sit with me
Together the way we used to be,
Laying beneath the cherry blossom tree.
What did you think

Very lovely writing in this expose of childhood, growing up and apart. At its core though is a gentle hopefulness, that the love shared will bring back the joy! Beautiful. Geo

this is a sad and touching poem, lost innocence and youth, of the days gone by, the memories that we have sometimes the only thing that keeps us going. thank you for sharing this with us here and for joining the website. keep up the writing.
