Notes to readers:
1. The story is going to contain some mature themes, including violence, crime, sexual scenes and profanity. Not every chapter will contain these, but if you don't want to read about this kind of content, then you're better off just not reading the story. You have been warned.
2. There is now going to be a chapter list at the bottom of the story, for easier access.
The rest of the school day just flies past in a blur. Lessons, break, lessons, lunch, more lessons. I'm not very enthusiastic about school. To me, it's not really the place where anybody learns. More like the place where idiotic teenagers try to bend the rules. to see how far they can push it before it snaps.
During my last lesson, a young girl comes into the room. Looking terrified to death, probably Year Eight at the oldest. I'm not surprised; my Year 12 Biology class is terrifying. Full of idiots that have surprised you just by meeting the course requirements.
"Excuse me, Miss Starbright? I have a notice here, for Courtney Bell?
My head snaps to look in her direction, and she looks even more terrified. The girl is tiny, with short brown hair and baby blue eyes. She has a certain innocence and naivety about her.
She seems so familiar...
I get up and take the message off of the girl, giving her a small smile to reassure her.
"Thank you very much." I say in my quiet voice. She nods a moment, and then scuttles away, like a frightened mouse retreating to a hole in the wall.
I open the message and scan it quickly, before getting up. Heather gives me a quizzical look, and I thrust the note at her quickly. I gather up all of my books as she reads it. She looks up at me with a worried expression on her face, getting up so that she can whisper in my ear without anyone else hearing.
"No band practice, then?"
She says it quietly, with a forced, humorless laugh. I shake my head, my face blank and emotionless. She smiles back sympathetically.
"Well, it's the Circle at seven, and now we have something to work on. I guess we'll be seeing you then?"
I nod, turning away as I see the pity in her eyes. I don't need the pity, not even from my best friends.
I show the note to the teacher, and she allows me to leave early. I hurry down the corridors, and out of the school gates. Practically running down the streets to a different school, bursting into the school reception and making the staff jump.
"I'm the older sister of Ruby Bell, where is she?"
The receptionist raises an eyebrow. She must be new here, to not recognize me. Most of the teachers at Ruby's school call me by name. It comes from attending parent's evenings, and picking her up every day since she started school.
"Come this way please. Your sister is quite unwell."
Her tone is snooty and condescending, as if I were the one who had caused this illness. I simply shake my head and follow her down to the office, my eyes averted to the ground. With my hair shielding my eyes from all onlookers, I let a flicker of worry show itself.
But only for a moment.
I hope she's alright.

Author notes
Dedicated to Psykotik D, who has been bugging me to write this chapter. Yes, I know I'm a slow updater but I get stricken with writer's block. Forgive me!

I would if I could... I know exactly what will happen with this story, I just have too much of a creative block to put it down on the page. T_T

I hope you know what you're doing, Silverlight.... you've added so much... mystery in this chapter. So much here to question, to analyze. If you have a plan for this story, it could end up being one of the best stories I've ever read. If you're just making it up as you go... well, to be honest it might fall flat on its face.
But I'm pretty sure you have a plan
Again, there are a LOT of questions in here, which I hope you answer at some point. I think you will. Even though it's somewhat short, it's definitely a hooking chapter.
You're welcome for nagging you! See, if not for me, you wouldn't have gotten this done!
... now hurry up and write the next one!! *newspaper*
