Seasons (Silver Trophy)

Through Autumn’s days of golden hue

With summer gone, it’s joys behind

I sit and watch leaves fall askew

And daydream, as windows in my mind

Soon Winter comes, cold and dreary

The soft serenity of Autumn gone

My eyes grow sleepy, my bones weary

Skies darken,  sun’s warmth passed on

Through long days and longer nights

It seems as though they’ll never end

These overcast hours, hoping for sunny sights

Soon bring new dreams, life on the mend

As tiny crocus begin to bloom

A sign of Spring’s promise, of life once more

Sun shines its rays of light through the gloom

A preview of what we have in store

Summer soon is on its way

With days of warmth now on the rise

Perhaps this time it’s here to stay

Another term of life, each new surprise

As the seasons come and go

Each with new hopes and dreams

We simply accept what comes our way

And wonder what to us it means

    Great

    You have covered the seasons so well and what they mean in our lives. The colors of Autmn are so beautiful,the first green of spring so anticipated,the cold of winter so dreaded yet so beautiful in it's own way if one is prepared.

    Congratulations on earning the Silver Cup!

    I was recently in Miami, Florida and it was warm in December. That freaked me out! If I could not enjoy all four seasons I would be sad because that is the environment I grew up in, and learned to love.

    Your poem sets all the "seasons" off with such splendor. This is very worthy of the merit received. Beautiful! I can't wait until Spring. As a matter of fact, we are getting a taste of Spring right now. It's 67 degrees here today. I'm loving it.

    Always ♥

      Thank you, Renee. I know what you mean about the seasons. We don't really have seasons here in Phoenix, either. Not at all like Seattle where I'm from. I miss the seasons, even the rain... love the rain. And even after 12 years of living in Phoenix, I still miss the northwest... and the rain

      We went to Florida for three weeks in October. It was nice, no hurricanes.

    You have written a elegant, touching poem. Each season has its own magic and there is someone somewhere who absolutely loves each and every season. Good luck in the contest.

    Dear Dee, Our Summer here in New Zealand have been strange too, very hot days, then we get very wet and cold days, but, what can we do? We have to live with it and enjoy being alive. Beautiful poem.
    Good luck in the voting.

    Right you are!

    I'm so weary of Winter. My eyes grow sleepy, my bones weary. You put it so well. Come Spring!

    A lovely poem with a philosophical outlook. After-a -while we we do indeed just accept whatever comes ou way, happy that he are here to see it!

    Each season has a different mood I think, I like Spring the best I think.

    It seems that each year the seasons come in different ways. Cold Summer, warm Winters... but yes, we have to live with them the best way we can.
    Lovely poem Dee with a great truth about nature and humans

      Dee, ask her to show you some of the photos of her in winter, where she's all bundled up like the Michelin man.

    Dear Dee, I love your poem very much and yes, we have to accept whatever weather we get, but i does get harder to bear when one gets so much heat. Good luck Dee.

    Dear Dee,

    Here, we can't trust our seasons any more.
    Our Spring has gone and we should be in Summer.
    instead of which it doesn't cease to pour
    which, after two whole weeks, becomes a bummer.

    Day after day I wander by the sea
    hoping to glimpse some body there worthwhile.
    But there is no-one there at all but me
    and nary a bikini or a smile.

    The rain has driven everyone away -
    even my most acute bird-watching buddies
    and, if the sheilas won't come out to play,
    how am I able to pursue my studies?

    You sister says I have to stop complaining,
    so I'll just read a book till it stops raining.

    ~~~
    As you say, we just have to accept whatever comes but when it's raining at Summertime it does tend to make for a dull life.
    Applause for a splendid entry, best of luck in the voting.
    (It's time you hosted a contest again!) Much love and hugs, XXX Hugh (R.)
    Well done catz
    Yes you are so right that as we move
    through the seasons we simple accept what comes
    our way and look for the simple gifts of
    each day in every season that we have in
    this great gift of life.
    For everything there is a reason and a purpose. It's just that sometimes we don't slow down enough to notice. These words remind me in beautiful verse to pause and smell the roses. Good luck in the contest.
    Sincerely,
    Leo Long
    ps. Has anyone told you how beautiful you are today?
    Ah, so poignantly told,
    both in reference to seasons
    and to life.
    But you did have a bright red
    burst of Cardinal almost-joy
    to brighten THIS Winter, right?
    lovely poem
    The seasons' passage gives us a deeper perspective, as we find it a metaphor for other cycles in life. What does it mean? Four different kinds of fun, maybe.
