Starting Anew

Fires are still burning
As the stories hit the news
Neighbors helping one another
Along with the fire crews

The fires were so frightful
No one was left exempt
All will work together
With a rebuilding attempt

I pray for all who lost
Their treasures, and their toys
I pray for those we'll see no more
Men, women, girls and boys.

I pray all will meet the challenge
The bushfires have thrown down
That the joy of living life
Will fill each country town

May the Fireies go back home
Content they did their best
And may Mother Nature show
Some mercy to the rest.

Another fire season is coming to an end now, very tragic for those directly affected and heartbreaking for those of us who can only watch from a distance. I am surprised how many in the country have relatives or friends in the fire areas. Thank you for your comments, my friend.

The fires are still burning as of this morning, but the danger is less now as containment lines and back burning have most fires controlled. The cleaning up and rebuilding has already started. I appreciate your reading and commenting, thank you.

Excellent piece of work, Bob. You tell such amazing stories of life as it unfolds. So sad the fireman from Canberra died helping out in these times. Such a tragedy for all. I can't say I have met anyone that can do it as well as you can and have people feeling the affects. I wish you the very best in the contest.

I of course have seen the news of the horrible brush fires. Here in the USA where I live (Arizona) we get a lot of summer fires but I don't know of any as devastating as what has happened in Australia.

It's almost beyond imagination, the atrocities comitted by man, leaving behind death and destruction. I've heard there's no death penalty in Australia but perhaps an exception can be made for this. Burning at the stake might be appropriate?

Your poem is very compassionatly written, bringing forth the emotions of pain and hope.

    Good luck in the contest

    Dee

Thank you Dee. You understand fires. We are prone to them because of the extremes of temperatures in summer. However, the likes of these current tragic fires is not so common. From past records the circumstances leading up to these horrific fires occurs about every 30 years or so. Just time enough for memory to dim or new people come to the areas most at risk. I appreciate your comments very much.
There is always hope, it is part of the human psyche.

A tragic event not yet finished, but the spirit of the survivors will rebuild all that was lost, including the inherent beauty of those burnt out places and the friendliness of all who live there. A great many thanks Julie.
