Back in the days of the wild west
men built up a reputation,
being quick on the draw or just killing men
without any hesitation.
Wild Bill Hickok was one mean cowboy
a legend in his own time,
he claimed to have killed a hundred men
and never committed a crime.
He was sheriff of Hays City Kansas
left the citizens in no doubt,
he would kill anyone that broke the law
but the people kicked him out.
After that he was marshal of Abilene
but his gambling got in the way,
and after he killed two more men
again he was sent on his way.
Then one day while gambling in Deadwood
he was shot in the back of the head,
by a man who said Wild Bill shot his friend
so he wanted Bill Hickok dead.
Why he sat with his back to the door
is something I don't understand,
he was holding two aces and a pair of eights
now known as a dead man's hand.
