The Hawkish Rhino

The Rhino is a handsome hawk
he floats up in the sky
when he gets drunk you’ll hear him talk
or yodel way up high

He thought his voice was very strong
and even tried to sing
but all he did was make a pong
when he took to the wing

Their numbers have decreased in size
“thank god”, I hear you say
a herd of rhinos in the skies
would darken any day!!!

Hmmm... Floating rhinos, eh? Their diet must create a lot of hot air!
This poem presents a fun and fanciful image of this large beast, fearsome in aspect, but generally benign and aggressive only when threatened. May they remain long upon earth and not become creatures only of memory and myth.
With Jeff's elephants nesting in trees and your rhinos riding the breeze, the visitors to their habitats would do well to be wary of the skies as well as the brush.

Lol I was wondering where it was going. The ending fits well and gives you quite the smile. I can even picture the words you wrote her. Good job and good luck in the contest.

So, that horrid galumphing sound in lightening storms is caused by herds of flying rhynos! This I didn't know.

The rhino shows his fierce sword but that only worked a million years ago. Today he's a heavy butterfly soon to be swept away in the wind.
Today I had to dress for a safari where are you going to take me next? -c
