I saw you;
sharing skin with the sky
and blowing celestial kisses
to the storm clouds
that threatened to beat
the chalk dust from the
cracked side walks.
-
Once upon a time, there was nothing
but you and I; all tied up with breezes
and woven promises.
The summer was hot that year.
I sat under fig trees and willed the
fruit to rippen, hoping you'd
give me a reason to touch my lips
to yours.
But you are a patient boy and you
just smiled and wove daisies
through my hair while I tried to
describe you, a boy too beautiful
for words, in nouns and verbs.
We were nothing but teenagers
poisoned by the hope we sucked
from cherry pits and mango flesh,
but you were my breath and I, your
wings
It was forever.
-
You looked so beautiful in the fire light,
tears shining in your eyes.
'I think you should leave.'
'Why?'
and I wanted to tell you that you bought
my heart with sand dollars and smiles, and
that you had become my lungs, filling my body
with ocean air and promises of always. I
wanted to wipe the tears from your eyes and
tell you that I couldn't hear the waves over
your kisses, but I knew we'd never have forever,
so I stuffed the truth down my throat and whispered,
'I don't want you here.'
-
& I filled my chest with sand
and happy memories while you.walked.away.

I'm completely in love with the second stanza.
I can feel the emotions in this so strongly and the imagery is clearly printed in my mind.
I almost wanted it to end in the middle just so it could have a happy ending, because the emotions come across as so real. As I read the second half, the words shifted from being felt in my heart to being felt in my eyes.
This is gorgeous and amazing and all those other lovely words that describe how perfectly you've written this.

This was my favorite because i can see like rain washing away chalk from the sidewalks, like when we are little. Thank you for entering, its a really great poem.
